Hands-On Perfume Production Event for University Students at MERLAB

Operating under Isparta University of Applied Sciences, the Central Research Laboratory Application and Research Center (MERLAB) hosted a colorful and hands-on workshop event tailored for university students. The "Making My Own Perfume" workshop, held with the participation of members of the SDU Chemistry and Chemistry Popularization Club, attracted great interest from the students.

The event commenced with the opening presentation by the Director of MERLAB, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Sardohan Köseoğlu. While providing information about the center's technical infrastructure and ongoing scientific studies, Köseoğlu highlighted the research and practical opportunities that MERLAB offers to students. The practical phase of the program was conducted under the guidance of MERLAB Deputy Director, Asst. Prof. Dr. İkbal Demet Nane. During the workshop, students gained knowledge on topics such as the history of perfume, fragrance science, and laboratory safety.

In the practical session, the students prepared their unique perfumes by combining their chosen essences and safe ingredients, personally determining the top, middle, and base notes. At the end of the workshop, the participants concluded the event with an unforgettable experience by filling their signature scents into special bottles.

Following the hands-on session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat KILIÇ, an academic staff member of MERLAB, presented a comprehensive briefing to the participants regarding the general structure and operations of the laboratory. Within the scope of this briefing, detailed explanations were provided about the research and analysis instruments housed in MERLAB, their areas of usage, and their contributions to scientific studies conducted across various disciplines. Furthermore, the laboratory's role in research, education, and practical activities was discussed, and information was shared on how academic personnel and students can benefit from this infrastructure.
